Back to the Future™ 25th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-ray Disc (Widescreen)This is it!  This is the big one you’ve been waiting for!!! Exactly twenty five years to the day since Marty McFly first sped off in Doc Brown’s suped-up DeLorean Time Machine in the parking lot of the Twin Pines Mall towards 1955, Universal Studios Home Entertainment (USHE) will release the 25th Anniversary Back to the Future Trilogy Boxed Set on DVD — and for the very first time on Blu-ray Disc — Tuesday, October 26, 2010!

This highly anticipated 25th Anniversary collection features all-new restorations for enhanced picture quality and hours of bonus features including new interviews with the cast and crew.

In an exclusive interview with BTTF.com, Back to the Future Writer/Producer Bob Gale gave us a sneak peek into what we can expect from these brand new features, including one specific item which fans have waited 25 years for a glimpse at.

We caught up with Bob last weekend at the 2010 DeLorean Car Show in Lexington, Kentucky to get his thoughts on the new Hi-Def transfers of the films.  “The HD transfers for all three films are simply breath-taking,” Gale told BTTF.com. “They actually look better than they did in the theater because of the incredible job that was done on dirt clean-up. (And the film grain is preserved, so they still look like movies should look.) And hearing the sound in full dynamic range is — okay, I’ll say it — a blast!”

He went on to describe the new documentaries, one of which is called Tales from the Future“I’m sure fans will enjoy the new documentaries, which include interviews with cast and crew members who — for budgetary reasons — were left out of the 2002 documentaries,” he explained. “So there are some stories and anecdotes told on camera for the first time. And since everyone wants to know, there are three very brief snippets of Eric Stoltz incorporated into one of the documentaries.”  You heard it here first — finally, film footage of Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly!!

Finally, Bob gave us a description of just some of the remaining bonus features which to expect. “We’ve included an animatic storyboard of the nuclear test site sequence from the early drafts of Part 1; the galleries of stills and artwork have been rescanned at a higher resolution, and we’ve included just about everything from the previous releases as well.”

USHE has confirmed to BTTF.com that the following bonus features are included on both Blu-ray and DVD:

  1. [...] Footage!!!111einself, … Ja, richtig. Produzent Bob Gale hat auf der DeLorean Car Show 2010 bestätigt, dass in einer der Dokus zumindest drei kurze Filmschnipsel von BTTF starring Eric Stoltz enthalten [...]

  2. Darian says:

So i’m assuming “Tales from…” is a completely different documentary than “Looking Back…”?

  3. DC says:

“…JUST ABOUT everything from the previous releases as well.”?

    What’s missing?

  4. DMC says:

Cool, c’est une bonne nouvelle. Vivement 2015 pour avoir un DVD spécialement pour les 30 ans !

Cool, c’ is a good news. Highly 2015 to have a DVD especially for the 30 years!

  5. Dale says:

    FANTASTIC news!

The new special features sound excellent. I can’t wait!!!

It says ‘sixteen’ deleted scenes, I wonder if that includes the three missing from the DVD set? There was 1.) the 1950s cigarette commercial (smoking is good for your lungs!) 2.) Marty touching the buried Delorean’s tires and them flaking to pieces due to age 3.) Doc offering Marty his gun to take back to 1885. I know all three exist since the first was included ‘secretly’ on the first BTTF DVD, you had to rip the DVD on a computer to find it as it wasn’t accessible by menu (don’t know why) and they found the last two shortly after the original DVD release.

  6. me says:

What about the Jaws 19 short? That was going to be on the new set, right?

  7. Kenny Kraly Jr. says:

This is great news the back to the future trilogy is coming to blu-ray fantastic news.

  8. Can-Dice says:

I’m super excited… This is definitely gonna be great. I just wonder what they’ll do for 2015.. because we all know that’s a big year for Back to the Future too.. :)

  9. Dale says:

Stephen: Has there been any word from Universal about possibly tying in a DVD release of The Animated Series to tie in with the Blu-ray release?

It just seems like such a perfect opportunity! I wonder what’s holding them back?

  10. Kermit says:

I am really excited about this new Blu-Ray set!

A few nights ago I just sat down and watched all three films on DVD and they still looked and sounded pretty damn good. Of coarse those DVDs are from 2002 and I did notice some flaws.

I would like to see some more new extras though, Possibly isolated music only tracks for all three films, audio commentaries with Robert Zemeckis and the Cast.

I also hope that Universal will not mess up again with the framing issues that Part 2 and Part 3 had.

    Overall this looks good!

  11. Can-Dice says:

OOOo I agree with Dale… They should release the Animated Series as a DVD box set. That would rule!!!!

  12. SC Farris says:

Sweet! That is all I can say.

  13. martymcflysenior says:

    Great news!!
The Animated Series would be good too, but lets be greatful!!
A NEW console game, card game, Blu-Ray, more DS Deloreans & minimates!! Happy 25th!!

  14. kevin says:

ah man, wheres the vhs on this hi def release?? guess i should finally upgrade and get me one of those laser disc players.

  15. EmBethMarsh says:

I’m so glad they’re releasing a new DVD as well. I mean as much as I would like the Blu-Ray copy then I’d have to spend £100 on a Blu-Ray player and another £250 on a HD TV!! But I might still get it, being the relentless BTTF fan I am!!

And I also agree, I’d like TAS to be released on DVD because I love it!

  16. Dale says:

Regarding the ‘Jaws 19′ short. FYI: that rumour originated from a fan made promo sheet, i.e. it was just made up by someone.

BTTF.com debunked that whole promo sheet a while back.

  17. Vivek Bhat says:

Glad they have added new features under Tales from the Future, including video clips of Eric Stoltz. Also liking the new cover, they managed to get Marty, Doc and the DeLorean without things looking out of place like the 2002 DVD cover. My only gripe is that they went with a mirror image of Doc, still it looks good.

  18. B Domer says:

What about the (still) unissued deleted scene from part III that Bob Gale said they “found at the last minute, but it was too late to include it on the 2002 dvd’s”????
This was the scene right before Marty launches the car into 1885, where the 1955 Doc hands him a gun, says something about to “get the sonofabitch that killed him”
Surely this could be included on the new release??

  19. Dale says:

@B Domer That’s what I’m wondering. In fact I mentioned it above. Hopefully they WILL be on there but I’m kinda doubting it at this point.

I wonder if The Ride footage will be HD with lossless sound? Now that would be cool!

  20. Steve says:

Someone asked what “JUST about everything from the previous releases” could refer to i.e. what might be left out. It appears from this list of features that the footage from the “Looking Back to the Future” documentary that was included on the individual dvd release of Part 1 from a couple years back won’t be included here. So people wanting that will still have to buy that release.

  21. Nick Burns says:

It would be way cool if they could have a disc with all three movies as one continuous movie. I’ve done this with my own set of DVDs. It’s a 15GB file (which would easily fit on a BR) and of course as you’re watching it, the credits from the 2nd and 3rd movie suddenly appear. The transition from movie to movie is flawless otherwise.

  22. Daniel says:

On Play.com it says “This Collectors Edition Tin Includes A Delorean blueprint, An ‘Outatime’ number plate, The Sports Almanac, Save The Clocktower poster & A Lenticular photo of Marty’s family plus much, much more!” Does anyone know what the much, much more is?

  23. Jeffrey Elya says:

Now that I’m thinking of the Blu-ray releases, does anybody remember seeing a bootleg version that somebody did?? The guy who made it cut bits and pieces of the credits and made the trilogy play as if it was one whole movie AND it was all on one disc.

Not to be critical, but we just had brand a brand new version of the dvd releases last year. It will be barely over a year when the 25th anniversary version is released, and it’s coming out on both blu-ray and regular dvd. Seems to me the new updated release should have been saved for this year!

  24. bobtiki says:

Kind of weird that they state it’s 25 years to the day, when BTTF premiered 25 years ago *today*: July 3rd, 1985.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088763/releaseinfo

  25. DC says:

Watch the movie. The date of the time travel happenings in the Twin/Lone Pine(s) Mall was the early morning of Saturday, OCTOBER 26, 1985. So, they meant 25 years to the day in the movie, not of its release.

  26. JC says:

Thanks for the news. I’m from South America, and I wanted to ask you if you know what kind of spanish language this edition would have, if it’s going to be european spanish (castillan), or latin spanish. Usually, the R4 release should have latin spanish, but when I purchased the special edition a few years ago, I was disappointed because it has the european spanish.

I would appreciate very much if you can answer me that. Thanks in advance.

PS: sorry if I made any mistake writing.

  27. popy says:

so..is this, both DVD and Blu Ray, USA/North America only? Or is it going to be an international release?

  28. Rich says:

Like Dale says, I am also interested to see if the extra deleted scenes appear on this new set. However the blurb states that there will only be 16. Weren’t there only 16 deleted scenes on the old set? If this is correct then they are not even going to include the Cigarette Commercial scene properly, the lazy gits! I didn’t know about the other 2 mentioned. Where did you hear about these?

  29. Firthy says:

Is this an international release date?

  30. Gatote Mc Fly says:

Great Scott!!! Im on this…the future, this is the future! =)

  31. Usman Jillani says:

    BTTF 4 PLEASE……………

  32. Let me give you a little history lesson.

One of the reasons atari failed with the 2600 is because developers flooded the market with crap. Nintendo realized this and put a cap on developers, so they could only release 5 games a year. To get around this, Acclaim made the LJN brand so they could release 10 games a year. Also, Konami made the Ultra Games brand.

  33. Daniel says:

I wonder if the BTTF Ride footage will be included as a feature.
